While consumer participation in meal and snack occasions follows an established pattern, the basic rhythm of eating and drinking occasions across the day in 2020 was only slightly impacted by the pandemic.

HARTMAN INSIGHT: Overall, consumers’ eating patterns throughout the day have remained largely unchanged compared to what they were prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the exception of the late-night meal/snack occasion, in which the percent of adults participating on an average day has declined significantly from 2019.

We expect consumer experience of the pandemic to have a lasting impact on food and beverage cultural trends moving forward.
