The Hartman Group Appoints Michelle Barry, Ph.D. as President of Tinderbox

BELLEVUE, WA, April 10, 2007 - The Hartman Group, a market research and consulting company specializing in health and wellness, announces the appointment of Michelle Barry, Ph.D. as President of Tinderbox. Tinderbox, which launched in October of 2006 is The Hartman Group's new group dedicated to culture, innovation and trends.

"At Tinderbox we leverage our expertise in innovation, culture and trends as a platform for creative insights and transformative innovation," said Laurie Demeritt, President & COO of The Hartman Group. "Because of her leadership and provocative thought, Michelle is best suited to drive this new effort. Under her direction, Tinderbox will inject creativity and passion into what companies are doing."

Barry, who has been with The Hartman Group since 2000, joined the team to head up the qualitative research team. With this announcement, she heads up the new group comprised of The Hartman Group's most seasoned research and insight specialists.

"Our approach reclaims creativity from conventional constraints and asks the questions that will lead to new ways of thinking and understanding the marketplace," said Barry. "I'm excited about taking on this new role in an organization at the forefront of new beginnings and great possibilities. Tinderbox will show clients solutions and strategies they would never have otherwise thought of or explored through traditional research practices."

Tinderbox focuses on advanced consumer-centric innovation and strategy, such as:

  • Reviving the brand experience
  • Refining the retail customer experience
  • Designing compelling, resonant product experiences
  • Finding product ideas within narrowly defined product categories - coffee machines, prepared foods, etc.
  • Exploring unmet needs within lifestyle consumer segments of consumers - mountain bikers, vegetarians
  • Studying unmet needs within professional target groups - janitors, building contractors, elementary school teachers
  • Creating breakthrough packaging and delivery ideas for highly commoditized CPG categories

"Tinderbox allows us to expand our horizons (and those of our clients) beyond the health and wellness arena while drawing from a variety of academic disciplines such as sociology, anthropology and linguistics to provide a unique cultural perspective on consumer behavior," said Harvey Hartman, Founder, Chairman and CEO. "I'm thrilled to have Michelle take on this new role as an agent of change where Tinderbox makes sense of complex, unpredictable consumer behavior."
